History

Not all French cuisine is fancy or precious.

In fact, some of the best foods offered in France are found in the streets — sweet crepes, savory crepes, Belgian waffles, and quick, warm sandwiches.

The French flock to the streets and stand in line on the sidewalks for their favorite crepes. They stop off for a fresh pastry or healthy sandwich, fresh-made and delicious. They grab a sumptuous waffle for breakfast, snack, or dessert before pounding the pavement or hitting the road

Authentic crepes come to Philadelphia.

When they settled in Philly, owners Jean-Luc and Rachel missed the simple, accessible European food and crepes they were used to. They were less interested in fine, expensive French restaurants and yearned for the great quality and craftsmanship of the French foodservice masters in cafes and bakeries. For years they waited for crepes, sandwiches, waffles, and coffees to come to the streets and sidewalks of Philly.

In 2008, the wait was over, as the co-owners of Café L’Aube opened for business and started delighting the neighborhood with their genuine French cuisine—for the average “Jean.” A combined internet café/casual French restaurant, Café L’Aube is just what the Rittenhouse Square area was looking for!

Fresh, local, and organic…

How so good, yet so simple? All foods are fresh, local, and mostly organic. Foods are bought through special arrangements at WholeFoods, Trader Joe’s, farmers markets, and DiBruno Bros gourmet.

Jean-Luc is a master coffee roaster whose L’Aube Torrefaction www.laubecoffee.com coffee and espresso blends are quickly becoming known as one of the best on the East Coast. All coffees are roasted and brought fresh to the café, and all beans are sourced single-origin from Rainforest Alliance plantations, individually by Jean-Luc.

Come hang out, surf the net, and enjoy coffee and French cuisine for the average person in the streets — You.

Nothing precious, everything delicious.
